This Basic Life Support (BLS) qualification will give a learner the knowledge and practical competence required to be able to provide crucial assistance to a casualty in an emergency until medical assistance arrives, potentially saving a life. The qualification covers cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), the safe use of an automated external defibrillator (AED), primary survey, the recovery position and choking.
This qualification is regulated in the UK and awarded by Qualsafe Awards (QA).

The Immediate Life Support qualification that Castleford Training Solutions offer is a bespoke course designed to facilitate the needs of maintaining a valid FREC 4 qualification. The course covers Basic Life Support content, airways management up to and including Igels, Triage (including various Triage Tools), Catastrophic Bleed theory and product familirisation and also an indepth Catastrophic Bleed practical using realistic bleeding (fake blood) wounds simulations on real casualties.

This bespoke course, aimed to cater for dental and medical practices, starts by covering basic life support in the morning both theory and practical including cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), the primary survey, the recovery position and choking. Full management of a cardiac arrest to BLS level including the use of an Automatic External Defibrilator (AED) is covered before moving on to the medical emergencies/life saving drugs part of the course. Each life threatening condition is covered in brief before covering the life saving drugs found in a dental practice, the storage of those drugs and the administration of them.
Although there is no formal assessment, the trainer will assess each individual throughout the course and issue a non-regulated certificate of achievement where the required level of attainment has been met.

The Understanding ECGs course that we have designed is aimed at both FREC 3 and FREC 4 qualified medics, as well as others that train within the Emergency Response industry. It is led by a university lecturing paramedic with years of both teaching and front line experience. It incorporates dissecting a lamb’s heart so the learner can better understand the anatomy and physiology of the heart.
It moves on to understanding the workings of the heart in more depth and learning about blood pressure including practicals on both taking manual and electronic blood pressure. Both 3-lead and 12-lead ECG practical application is covered using current Corpuls3 technology and also how to analyse the rhythms created as well as refreshing the rhythms covered withing the FREC 4 scope of practice.
Upon completion of the course, the learner will receive a Castleford Training Solutions certificate of attendance.

The Understanding ECGs - Part 2 course has been designed as a follow on course to Castleford Training Solutions Understanding ECGs course where you will have gained all the knowledge, through theory and practical dissection, to be able to understand the course content covered in Part 2. This course further explores the working of the heart and will increase the learners confidence in determining a normal ECG. It moves on to developing knowledge of a range of arrhythmia like Atrial, Junctional and Ventricular.

The Understanding Breathing course is the latest in our "Understanding" series of courses. This Paramedic led course, like our Understanding ECGs courses, involves a dissection element where a lambs pluck is dissected, giving the learners an in depth and up-close view of how we breath.
After the dissection the course moves onto a detailed study of the components in our airway and their purpose within the respiratory system. The learner will better understand how oxygen is extracted from the air we breath and oxygenates the blood before it recirculates around our bodies.
There are no entry level requirements for this course, however it is recommended that the learner has a good knowledge of Pre-Hospital Care fundamentals. The course suits learners who have already achieved FREC 3 or FREC 4 qualifications or higher, alongside first aid trainers who want to broaden their existing knowledge base.

This is an excellent course designed for learners to understand both the theory and practical side of Catastrophic bleed. Whether you are a First Aider wanting to broaden your knowledge on the subject or a medic who wants to better equip themselves whilst working in a pre-hospital environment.
You will learn in depth knowledge about the available products designed to stop bleeding from the body, whether that be the various chest seals on the market to different trauma dressings available. Haemostatic dressings, granuals and applicators and a vast selection of tourniquets are shown and demonstrated. We expand your knowledge to include non-clinical everyday items that can be used to stem blood flow to save life. Lots of practicals throughout the day ending with real life scenarios on real people using very realistic bleeding simulations so you see the type of wounds that come under Catastrophic Bleed. Through both practical and theory elements you will start to appreciate a group of conditions that make up the Autism Spectrum. Whether you are a First Aider or Medic who wants to broaden their knowledge on the subject so you can help a sufferer, or a trainer who wants to add to there skillset, this course is an ideal starting point. This course is also suitable for carers of adults or children who sufferer from Autism, whether that be a carer working within the care sector or looking after a family member.
You will develop a greater understanding of the word Autism and as your knowledge grows though out the course you will be able to demonstrate through practical exercises the skills you have learnt. This course has been specifically designed for those who just need to know a little about both Autism and Dementia as part of their care setting they work in. It takes the basics from our "Understanding Autism" and "Understanding Dementia" courses and gives you an awareness of Autism and Dementia, providing an understanding of some of the causes and starts to put the learner in a position to help a person with either condition. Through the combination of theory and practical workshops, we try to show what it is like for someone who lives with either condition and the everyday struggles they may face. At the end of the course, the learner should be able to apply the knowledge gained and be in a better position to help someone living with either condition.
Whether you work in the Care Sector or have a relative who lives with Autism or Dementia then "Understanding Autism and Dementia" is a good way to start your learning journey about either condition.

The Understanding Life-Saving Medication course is another Paramedic-led course designed to refresh the knowledge gained on courses like Qualsafe's Safe Administration of Life-Saving Medication (SALM). This practical-biased course covers the full range of skills required to understand when a life-saving medication is needed, from assessing the patient, deciding on the correct medication and preparing it, calculating the dosage needed and knowing the correct route of administration for the medication. The medications included on the course are Aspirin, Adrenaline, Glucagon, Glucagel, Naloxone Hydrochloride (Narcan), GTN, Salbutamol, Ipratropium Bromide, Buccal Midazolam, Chlorphenamine and Hydrocortisone. The course also covers all different the routes of administration for life-saving medications including intramuscular, subcutaneous, inhalation, nebulised, oral, sublingual, buccal and intranasal.
There are no entry level requirements for this course apart from a good understanding or English, however a good knowledge of life-saving medications would be an advantage. The course will suit those who have already achieved a FREC 3 or higher, alongside first aid trainers who want to broaden their existing knowledge base.
Upon completion of the course, the learner be issued a Castleford Training Solutions certificate of attendance.
