For the love of blogs - episode 10

Bonjourno amigos, and yes, it is that time of the month again to find out what mischief we (CTS) have been getting up to. I cannot believe it has been over a month since I last wrote my stunning blog and here we are again with the Sunday Times bestseller – I can always live in hope!!!!

Shaun has been remarkably busy delivering a vast and varied array of courses ranging from Basic Life Support + Medical Emergencies (BLS) to Autism and even a First Response Emergency Care requalification (FREC3). My amazing acting skills were called upon again as part of a mental health crisis scenario and I believe I really should be on stage. After delivering the scenario twelve times in a row even I was getting sick of hearing my voice!!! I think I traumatized several students who were visibly relieved when it was over. Strangely I enjoyed playing the part of a deranged woman – something I am exceptionally good at according to my husband.

Last month we were asked to help with a mass casualty scenario at Utilita Arena in Newcastle which can only mean one thing – lots of blood!!! This was done in conjunction with members of the arena and security staff and was a test to see how they would deal with a major terrorist attack. We had the help of a number of willing “voluntold” people who were more than happy to wear one of our many realistic wound simulations and be covered in fake blood. I was wearing my usual amputated hand wound complete with arterial bleed and the poor security guy who was put in charge of looking after me quickly realised he should have called in sick that night!!! He was extremely thankful when the medical team arrived to take over. The whole scenario worked really well and there were some pretty impressive performances from our willing “voluntolds”. I wonder if they still felt the same way once they realised how many days it takes for the fake blood to wear off, oh dear and welcome to my club. I have to say the one person I felt most sorry for was the poor cleaner who had the unenviable task of mopping all the blood up the next day. Over time we are hoping CTS will be known for creating realistic wounds on casualties with or without blood as part of their training exercises held in both small and large arenas.

Speaking of our wound simulations, Andy (our 12-year-old fake son as seen above) was given a makeover by our Welsh friend Dave Sims (W D Sims) who is responsible for all the realistic wounds we use in our catastrophic bleed scenarios. Now I am not too sure what conversation took place between Dave and Shaun, but poor Andy’s makeover is not the typical Instagram/TikTok image. The poor child is not very well as you can see from the photo, but he did play his part well when he was used a couple of days ago as part of a First Aid at Work + Cat Bleed course. The use of Andy creates a further dilemma when it comes to our casualty scenario. If faced with a child as well as an adult casualty, whose life would you save first?

Coming up just before Christmas is our new Understanding Life-Saving Medication CPD course, delivered by our wonderful and very highly skilled lecturing Paramedic Harry, which still has a couple of places available. This course is designed to identify conditions associated with administering life-saving medications, knowing the correct routes of administration, as well as assessing and monitoring their effects. Anyone wishing to know more about this course or any of the other courses we have to offer, please contact us via the website.

On a final note, we have made it to one hundred not out – yes one hundred Trustpilot reviews. We just wanted to say thank you to all our wonderful customers who took the time to tell us how good or bad our services were. This is a huge milestone for us and we welcome the next one hundred reviews.

My work is now done for this stunning piece of informative and extremely witty writing. Now do I apply for a job as a script writer for a tv show or apply to Rada – answers on a postcard and feel free to let me know what you think my next career move should be.

Si’thi’ later
